The elephants are on their way from their house to their regular evening bath and are passing our tent on the way.
Near the banks of the River Khwae, in the former elephant sanctuary camp, is where you’ll find this elephant-friendly excursion. On this trip, you will see more about the city of Kanchanaburi. We will get the best of both worlds: a chance to learn about the area’s rich history and natural landscape while also seeing elephants and enjoying an adventurous trip into the great outdoors
We’re pitching our tents at the site of a former elephant sanctuary camp, so we can see these magnificent creatures as they meander around the area on their way to the river for a daily bath. We’ll be checking out Tham KraSae and its accompanying bridge, a notorious section of the Death Railway. After we get back to camp in the afternoon. In which we get to do whatever we desire (Bamboo rafting, elephant riding, or elephant bathing)
Next day after breakfast we tidy up our campsite. We will drive to Kanchanaburi town, where we’ll meet our local crew for stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) on the Khwae River. A cruise down the river will allow us to take in the sights of Kanchanaburi.
Since 2018, the elephant camp has ceased to serve the tourism sector. The encampment is currently home to four elephants and their caretakers. You may occasionally spot them walking around, and both the elephants and their caretaker continue to provide services in exchange for food to campers.
Bangkok Hiking never supports animal abuse. Our top priority is selecting partners who have a beneficial effect on the local community. This is the campsite we chose.
Now, we are aware that elephant camps have a poor reputation due to animal abuse, elephants being forced to labor, etc. But not all camps forced elephants to work longer hours without regard for their conditions, nor do all caretakers in this profession abuse their elephants. A single adult elephant can easily consume 400 kg of food each day, and in order to provide them with food, the camp needs funds.
These are the ways you may assist with their support…
